Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf (born 5 January 1963 in Gaya, Kano State) is a Hausa-Fulani Muslim civil engineer and politician serving as Governor of Kano State since 29 May 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). A Bayero University, Kano graduate (B.Eng. Civil Engineering), he served as Kano State Commissioner for Works (2011–2015) under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, whose daughter he later married. He contested the 2019 governorship on the PDP and lost, then won the 2023 contest under the NNPP as part of the Kwankwasiyya political movement. The Kano Election Petition Tribunal nullified his victory in November 2023; the Supreme Court reinstated him in January 2024. His administration continues Kwankwasiyya signature programmes — foreign scholarships, education and infrastructure. State debt grew from ~₦244bn at swearing-in (inherited from Ganduje) to ~₦355bn by Q4 2025, a +46% nominal change principally driven by FX revaluation of inherited external obligations.
